Hi-D-Ho Drive In
About This Spot
Pulling up to Hi-D-Ho Drive In in Alamogordo feels like stepping back into a simpler, sunnier time. The hum of familiar chatter mingles with the scent of fresh-grilled burgers and the faint hint of green chile wafting through the warm desert air. Whether you park your car to order or choose one of the inviting outdoor tables, the pace here is unhurried and easy, offering a genuine moment to pause and savor the small joys of a meal shared under open skies.
This is a place where the human rhythms of friendly exchange and casual comfort take center stage. The staff’s quick, welcoming service adds a personal touch that feels more like stopping by a neighbor’s porch than a typical fast-food run. It’s the kind of local spot that draws families and travelers alike, all converging over hearty plates meant to satisfy real hunger — and craving.
The menu is where the spirit of New Mexico shines quietly but unmistakably. Beyond classic drive-in staples like burgers and fries, you’ll find the unexpected — a vibrant green chile cheeseburger that carries the local flavor with just the right kick, or a lemon squeeze that cools you down like a midday breeze. There’s a refreshing simplicity here, from crispy chicken tacos and burritos to the playful indulgence of thick, creamy shakes and shaved ice. These offerings feel crafted to balance tradition with whimsy, each bite holding a little story that blends the old with the new.
At Hi-D-Ho Drive In, the joy isn’t just in the food — it’s in the shared experience. Friends chatting over a double-cheeseburger deal, the casual clink of glasses filled with cherry limeade, the quiet excitement of trying something new on a menu that’s unpretentious yet full of heart. It’s a community rhythm unfolding slowly, a bright spot along the road where time softens, and a good meal feels like a small celebration.

They come to your car or a table to take your order. Service was quick and friendly. Food was great, very tasty and big portions. Price was good, especially if you pay cash. He had chicken tacos...so tasty. I had a double teeny burger. It was huge. Can't imagine how big a regular burger would have been. Shake was big, delicious and very thick.

We had so much fun at this cute little drive in! We stopped here on 3/25/25 and opted to sit on the patio and eat instead of sitting in the car on such a nice day. It was the perfect place to eat before heading back to the hotel after a day at the sands! Give it a try!

It’s an old school drive in w option to sit at the tables. The menu, clean cut to the point and with plenty options including non burger items. Cheeseburger was delicious we got the 2 cheeseburger deal, the chili dog w cheese and onions (20/10) and a lemonade. They also have this thing called a lemon squeeze which is practically shaved ice with fresh lemon juice and they give you a small container of salt. It is the craziest thing to me, but people are actually out here ordering this so I had to order it to find out for myself. I ate it and enjoyed it too. They take both cash and card, always a must in Alamogordo.

A MUST TRY..! Hi-D-Ho definitely has a style of it's own. The steak fingers, fries, and salad, were all very good. The staff were also very friendly. The only negative things were we wanted chicken fingers, but they were out of stock, and the trash can was over flowing, but I would still recommend this very cool old time drive in, and we will definitely eat there again the next time we are in Alamogordo.

HiDHo is one of those places you stop by cause you’re driving through and want some food!!! They have some pretty good burgers for the drive up style it is. My only complaint was they didn’t have ketchup when I was there. How is no ketchup available at all possible? Haha. I would love to stop by again when driving through!

What a great find! This place came recommended to my family for lunch. The food was delicious, and we're still talking about the lemonade and limeade months later. Great prices for the quality and quantity of food you get. Don't come here for the atmosphere. There are some outdoor picnic tables with a covering to shelter you from the sun, but it's still incredibly hot (to be fair we went in the end of July). The wait time for food is considerable but totally worth it.
